The Lies The Sunscreen Manufactures Used For Years

How the makers of many sunscreen products have been deceiving the public for many years. We now have learned what we can expect when using these products. After being misinformed over what protection we expected from a particular cream, lotion or spray we applied. Find out how often to apply sunscreen, is it waterproof, does it have sufficient ingredients to block the damaging rays of the sun. This article will clear up some of the misconceptions we have been under pertaining to the labeling and use claims made by manufactures about their merchandise.

There a 3 terms that is now against the law to use when trying to sell sunscreen.

1. Waterproof: We were told if we used this product, then go swimming we would be safe from sun damage. After applying this lotion or cream, we felt safe enough to enjoy a day in the sun, even going into the water. Now we find out there is no such thing as waterproof protection. That was the first lie told to the public for many years.

2. Sweat-Proof: Just like so called waterproof protection when using this we were under the impression that when we were out in the sun and either working or playing sports using a product labeled sweat-proof was sufficient. Again this is another term the FDA has demanded be removed from all labels.

3. Sunblock: This term just seemed to be self-explanatory, we assumed it blocked out all the harmful UVA and UVB rays that could do extreme damage to our skin especially stop the ultra violet rays that cause skin cancer. For years, almost every piece of merchandise advertised to reduce the damaging effects of the sun used the term sunblock. Now along with waterproof and sweat-proof, sunblock can no longer be used to describe cream, sprays and lotions that are being promoted as sun protection products.

The term water resistant is allowed to be used as long as it is accompanied by reapplying instructions, which usually state that all water resistant sunscreens should be applied every 40 to 80 minutes for maximum benefits.

Manufactures are now made to list all drug facts information somewhere on the container, that includes active ingredients and use claims.

It is recommended that any SPF with a rating lower then 15 is useless. 15 is the bare minimum and you should really consider a broad-spectrum with UVA and UVB protection with a SPF of at least 40.

Like it or not without government intervention these companies could have gone on for years with false advertising. Now you at least have the facts and you can use them however, you choose. Remember to protect your children from the sun and keep applying the correct sunscreen many times through out the whole day. Better to be safe.

What Every Facial Sunscreen Must Have

Sunscreen has now become a daily part of our life, or should be. We all know the benefits it offers. Protecting our face from the harmful effects of the sun not only can prevent signs of premature aging but also prevent skin cancer. It is important to choose the correct sunscreen for your face that will give you the maximum protection.

The SPF rating is extremely important in selecting a product that offers complete protection. It is now recommended especially for facial application a SPF of no less then 40. However, you do not have to over react. A SPF of 70 is really the highest you need to prevent free radical damage for sun exposure. Many companies are now marketing numbers that are off the charts. Most Dermatologists and the FDA agree that a 70 rating is then sufficient to combat the damaging effects of the sun.

Look for a broad-spectrum product with UVA and UVB protection. Sunburn is caused by UVB radiation. Both UVA and UVB radiation can cause skin cancer as well as premature aging. Broad-spectrum products under SPF rating of 15 can prevent sunburn but will not protect you from the dangerous effects of the sun.

When purchasing a cream or lotion for your face always choose ones that have antioxidants and other skin-beneficial ingredients such as those that mimic healthy skin's structural components. It is becoming increasingly a well-known fact that antioxidants when added to sunscreen will increase the efficiency of the ingredients along with helping to counterbalance the free radical damage from sun exposure.

Finally yet importantly, any skincare product for your face should always have a moisturizing component. It is so important while you are exposed to the sun that you keep your skin well moisturized. No matter your skin type, oily normal or dry keeping your face hydrated and using a good moisturizing lotion or cream is the key factor in preventing sun damage like wrinkles and premature aging.

It is important to know sunscreen is just not needed in the summertime. The damaging rays of the sun such as UVB and UVA are there year round. No matter the time of year, our face is always exposed to the elements that include pollution as well as the sun. Finding the right sunscreen product that you are happy with and will use daily will reduce your chances of skin cancer, which is enough of an incentive, but you also get the added benefit of keeping your skin younger looking and preventing wrinkles and signs of aging longer.

To recap what you should always look for before you purchase any facial sunscreen.

SPF not go below 15 Recommended SPF 40.
Broad Spectrum meaning UVA and UVB protection
Contains Antioxidants for increased efficiency
