There Are Three Types of Skin Cancer and Only One Calls for Concern

Millions of people worldwide suffer from cancer and there is a call for concern as it has been noted that there is a drastic increase over the past years and more people are presenting with signs of skin cancer especially men and those with lighter skins.

The risk of developing skin cancer is high especially with global warming as the UV radiation levels are far higher than previous years and will also depends on ones global location as people that live in areas where the UV levels are higher are more likely to develop it than those that live in cold climates.

This cancer is caused by the excessive exposure to the sun and in addition, when ones immune system is weak they will develop the symptoms. There are three types of skin cancer which are basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma. The two most common are basal and squamous and are commonly referred to as non-melanoma. The melanoma is the most dangerous form as it has the tendency of spreading over the body quickly.

The basal and squamous seldom spread and they account for around ninety percent of skin cancers. Spreading of these types will result in damage to the surrounding tissue and they can develop over the entire body but are most commonly found on the legs, arms, chest and scalp and on the face and ears.

The signs of skin cancer differ and the basal carcinoma usually presents with dark to light brown spots that look similar to a mole on the skin and some tend to shine and others may look dark. The basal carcinoma can be removed by curettage and desiccation or cryosurgery and should only be removed by a qualified professional.

The Squamous cell carcinoma is found in the tissue under the surface of the skin as well as the lining of the digestive tract and lungs as well as the lining of hollow organs. This type of cancer forms scaly patches on exposed skin as well as mounds with a crater in the center and will spread fairly quickly to other parts of the body.

A Melanoma is dangerous and can turn malignant. These are dark brown in color with jagged edges and can be raised or flat. These are removed surgically and are tested for malignancy.
